About Me

My Photo
I am a full time working Wife, Mother, Step-Mom and Student. I love my life and find it very satisfying - could you imagine the wreck if I did not. I am learning every day - whether it be from my little girl, my husband, my two Step-sons or, surprisingly enough, even college! I have started this blog to try to teach me to think differently - afterall, the risk of your thoughts being public should teach you to behave... at least, I hope so. :)

Book Reviews

Now I'm not one for book reviews.  Never have been.  Hated them in school as well, because, if I had happened to actually read the book, I ended up writing a long encounter of the read, which inevitably landed up being half the length of the book itself.

But...

I have just (almost) finished listening to The Death Defying Pepper Roux by Geraldine McCaughrean, as delivered to me by Audible.com (I pay for the privilege, BTW, they have not yet offered me a free membership to Audible.com in exchange for reviews on my blog, although, Audible.com, I think this might be a remarkably wonderful idea and should be looked into).

This is a wonderful little story.  A bit macabre in plot, for children, but a really enjoyable listen.  I prefer stories made for teens because they don't contain sex or bad language.  I want to enjoy the story not have to get all irritable every time someone swears or because they author can't sell their books without sleaze.

Anyway, this one is all about a 14 year old boy who is prophesied over as he pops out, so to speak, that he will not make it past his 14th birthday, by the aunt who heard it in a vision of her patron saint.  It's all about how this kid keeps trying to outwit the Saint and her Angels of Death, which follow him the whole way through is journey.

If you happen to have a subscription to Audible.com, buy it.  If not, look it up in your library - I enjoyed it.
If you hate it... and I happen to do another review, don't read my next recommendation.  See... easy!
